How to connect your TV to headphones, external speakers & surround sound systems
Depending on your model of TV and also you make and model of headphones, speakers or surround sound system, you can connect the 2 devices together as follows.
If your TV has a 3.5mm earphone/headphone output, you can connect your headphones directly to this connector on the TV.
If your TV does not have a 3.5mm headphone output, it may be possible to connect headphones to the TV providing it has 2 x SCART sockets.
In order to connect via SCART, you will need to purchase extra accessories. (SCART Block with Input/Output Switch and depending on which SCART Block you purchase, you may also need an RCA (L/R) convertor cable to reduce the connection from L/R Phono to 3.5mm. SCART 2 usually gives Audio out. You need to set the SCART socket switch to 'Output'. Please note that due to copyright protection, not all 'Sources' output Audio via the SCART socket (for example, not all models will output DVD or HDMI - this is a normal characteristic of the device)
When connecting headphones via SCART it is not possible to adjust the volume of the headphones using the TV's volume control, therefore, it is recommended to connect headphones that are powered via mains or batteries and have their own independent volume control.
If your TV does not have a 3.5mm headphone output or 2 x SCART Sockets, it is not possible to connect headphones to it.
Please note it is not possible to connect Analogue Headphones to the TV's COAX Digital audio output.
Connecting to external speakers or a surround sound system.
If your TV has COAX Audio output and your external speakers/surround sound system has COAX Audio input, this is the preferred method to connect the 2 devises together. You will need to purchase a COAX Audio cable to connect in this way. Please note the COAX Audio output is a Digital (DTS) output and therefore you cannot connect to Analogue inputs on your speakers/surround sound system.
If your external speakers / surround sound system does not have COAX Audio Input, its likely it will have L/R Phono Input. (Red and White connectors) Depending on your model of TV and assuming your external speakers/surround sound has L/R Input, connect as follows.
If you have 2 x SCART sockets on the TV you will need to purchase extra accessories. (SCART Block with Input/Output Switch and Phono Cable long enough to connect from your TV to your speakers/amplifier)
Select 'Output' on the SCART Block.
Connect the Red connector from the SCART adaptor to the Red connector on your surround sound/speakers INPUT.
Connect the White connector from the SCART adaptor to the White connector on your surround sound/speakers INPUT. To adjust the volume, you will need to use the remote control for your external speakers/surround sound system.
If your TV does not have 2 x SCART sockets but does have a 3.5mm Headphone socket, and assuming your Surround sound/speakers has L/R (Phono) Input, you will need to purchase an additional cable, one end to be 3.5mm, the other end to be L/R (Red and White Phono connector)
Connect the 3.5mm connector into the TV's Headphone output and connect the Red and White connectors to the corresponding input on the external speakers/surround sound system.
Please note when connecting via the 3.5mm headphone socket on the TV, this will mute the sound to the TV's speakers. This is a normal characteristic of the device.
If your TV does not have COAX audio out or a headphone 3.5mm output and only 1 x SCART socket, it is not possible to connect it to external speakers/surround sound system.
